CFO Panel Discussion

Event Description: Join the South Florida Banking Institute as we share the latest information on current accounting and regulatory issues affecting the banking community. Including, how to deal with the impact of the current interest rate environment, implementation of new allowance for loan losses models (CECL), and upcoming accounting/regulatory requirements.

Ivan A. Garces

Principal, Risk Advisory Services, Kaufman | Rossin

Ivan Garces is a senior advisory principal, Chair of Kaufman Rossin's Risk Advisory Services practice, and serves as the Firm's Chief Risk Officer and is a member of the Firm's Management Committee. He brings clients more than 25 years of public accounting experience, and provides, risk management, governance, forensic accounting and financial crimes and regulatory compliance consulting services to private and publicly traded companies and financial institutions throughout the United States, Mexico, Central America, South America and the Caribbean.

He has extensive experience evaluating risk management programs, internal controls, anti-fraud, anti-money laundering and sanctions compliance programs, USA PATRIOT Act, Bank Secrecy Act, Office of Foreign Assets Control and Foreign Corrupt Practices Act compliance programs and assisting companies and financial institutions respond to regulatory enforcement actions related to such matters. He has provided expert testimony before the U.S. House of Representatives, Committee on Financial Services, Subcommittee on National Security, International Development and Monetary Policy, the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida as well as in arbitration proceedings.

Juan Avila is the Chief Financial Officer of Intercredit Bank with over 20 years of experience in the fields of accounting, finance, investments, strategic and business planning. Juan holds an undergraduate degree in Economics and a Master's degree in Finance, both from Florida International University.

Throughout his career, Juan has demonstrated exceptional leadership and expertise in managing financial operations, driving strategic initiatives and developing revenue growth opportunities. Juan has a proven track record of aligning divisional goals with overall organizational strategies, ensuring efficient financial management and administration. In his current role as Chief Financial Officer of Intercredit Bank, Juan is responsible for overseeing and managing the bank’s financial and liquidity positions, enhancing the performance of the investment portfolio, overseeing strategic moves in both loan and deposit portfolios, and alignment to the goals and objectives of the strategic plan.

Juan has successfully led various projects, including the development of new business models, development and enhancement of multi-layered relationships, and the transformation of financial planning and monitoring processes.
